A Walk in the Park

Boulder’s active populace takes full advantage of the intricate trail system around town. The abundance of trails in the green belt (city and county parks) makes for great hiking. Read on…

Bear Peak (ProTrails Link)

One of the most challenging hikes in the main Boulder area, Bear Peak is a great exercise in persistence with an awesome payoff. The Fern Valley route is shorter but very challenging and there is a much longer alternate route to the summit. Once at the top, you have a great view of the Boulder valley and can see Denver well an all but the grayest days.

Royal Arch (ProTrails Link)

A fun trail through the areas below the Flatirons, the Royal Arch trail takes you up to a gorgeous natural arch in Boulder’s park system. Mildly challenging, this hike also offers great views at the end and a great place to relax for a while on the rocks in the sun. Curiously enough, this trail is often called the Hidden Arch trail since it’s very hard to see the arch from down in the valley.

Mt. Sanitas (ProTrails Link)

A staple hike for Boulder natives, the Mt. Sanitas loop offers a great workout and consistently good views all the way up. Also popular with trail runners and dog walkers, the valley portion of the trail is relaxing and feels far from the city due to being protected between two ridges. Definitely worth your while.
